GreenPath's corporate headquarters building in Farmington Hills, MI.

GreenPath, Inc., was established in 1961, as a Michigan Credit Union League budgeting and financial education service.  In 1967, business leaders raised funds through a joint capitalization effort to create Credit Counseling Centers, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit corporation.  Below are some other notable developments in GreenPath’s history:

1967 – Became one of the first agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to conduct housing counseling services.Michigan Credit Union League logo

1970s – Added office locations throughout Michigan and established stand-alone credit counseling organizations in Maine, New Hampshire and Oklahoma.

1985 – Opened an office in Illinois.

1995 – Opened offices in metro New York City.

1999 – Opened offices in Arizona and Wisconsin.

2000 – Transitioned from a regional provider to a national service provider.

2001 – Changed the company name to GreenPath, Inc., doing business as GreenPath Debt Solutions, in an effort to establish a unique brand identity.

2004 – Opened offices in Indiana through an asset transfer agreement with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Northern Indiana.

2005 – Became one of the first agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Justice to provide bankruptcy counseling and education services.

2009 – Opened an office in Chicago.

Dignitaries with shovels turning over the first dirt at groundbreaking for GreenPath's new corporate headquarters.2010 – Opened offices in Florida and Texas through asset transfer agreements with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Mid-Florida and Consumer Credit Counseling Services of North Central Texas.  Broke ground on a new headquarters and call center in Farmington Hills, Michigan.GreenPath's president and CEO, along with the board chair, cut the ribbon at the official ceremony dedicating the new corporate headquarters building.

2011 – Opened offices in New Hampshire, Vermont, Colorado, Wyoming and Texas through asset transfer agreements with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of New Hampshire & Vermont, Consumer Credit Counseling Services of South Texas, and Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Northern Colorado & Southeast Wyoming.  Moved into the new headquarters building.

2011 Celebrated 50 years of providing credit counseling, debt management and financial education services.

2012 – Opened new corporate headquarters building in Farmington Hills, MI.

2015 – Surpassed $4 billion in funds repaid on behalf of clients on debt management programs. Surpassed 2 million bankruptcy counseling and education certificates issued.

2016 – Rebranded as GreenPath Financial Wellness to better describe the organization's broader scope of empowering people to lead financially healthy lives.

Today, GreenPath employs more than 400 people and assists more than 200,000 people across the country each year.
