Upholding the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People,” Heritage Trust recently held a free financial wellness seminar for members of the Latino community in the North Charleston area at the Iglesia Hispana Fe. Heritage Trust worked with local Latino community leaders to plan and raise awareness for the event.
Bi-lingual speaker Mariel Hernandez of GreenPath Solutions (a financial counseling affiliate of Heritage Trust) faciliated the educational event. The program offered participants two sessions: creating and implementing a successful budget and understanding and building credit. Resource materials and workbooks were provided and mobile/online options for money management were presented. Worksheets and handouts were provided to the audience to help emphasize the importance of keeping a record of your financial transactions. Hernandez offered best practices, solutions and tactics that participants could implement in their daily lives.
“It was really inspiring to see what Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union is doing to support the Latino community. By offering these free financial education seminars in Spanish, Heritage Trust is helping this community be better prepared for the future. Attendees were really thankful to receive this useful information,” commented Hernandez.
“Heritage Trust has always been dedicated to providing our members and the community with financial education. With the growth of the Latino sector in Charleston, we saw a need for this type of program and worked with community leaders to make it happen,” commented Dustin Haynes, Heritage Trust Public Relations Officer.
