GreenPath Financial Wellness Opens New Headquarters and Call Center
Farmington Hills headquarters opens new 125,000 square foot facility with fanfare
(FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – August 1, 2012) GreenPath Financial Wellness, a nationwide, non-profit financial organization that assists consumers with credit card debt, housing debt and bankruptcy concerns, officially opened its new corporate headquarters in Farmington Hills on August 1, the 51st anniversary of the company’s founding.
More than 100 people attended the opening of the four-story, 125,000 square foot building, which houses the company’s 300-seat nationwide call center and administrative offices.
“This day has been five years in the making,” said Jane E. McNamara, GreenPath president and CEO. “This new call center and headquarters will serve our clients and staff for the next 50 years and we are so proud to have built it in southeast Michigan. It was important for us to remain loyal to metro-Detroit and keep the company headquartered here.”
GreenPath previously owned a smaller building in Farmington Hills and leased additional office space in the same area.
McNamara went on to explain that the new building will provide a comfortable working environment for the staff. “As counselors, our GreenPath staff can put in long hours and we wanted to make sure that they had a positive, fun, comfortable working environment for them.” Amenities for the employees include a café, a workout room and a “Fun Zone” with video games and a putting green.
McNamara officially opened the building with Jane Sydlowski, GreenPath board chair and president of AMI Strategies, Barry Brickner, mayor, Farmington Hills, and Jerry Bailey, who, along with his wife, Sue, were named 2011 GreenPath Clients of the Year, as well as the 2011 National Foundation for Credit Counseling’s Clients of the Year. The Bailey’s, from Jackson, Michigan, paid off more than $90,000 in debt through a GreenPath debt management program.
The building and surrounding amenities (parking lot, landscaping, etc.) cost $27 million to complete and is set on 10.5 acres off 12 Mile Road, near Halsted Road, in Farmington Hills. GreenPath preserved two acres of wetlands surrounding the building. Three hundred thirty employees are housed in the call center and administrative offices, while the building has capacity for 600 employees. “We built with the idea that our company and our services will continue to grow in the future,” McNamara said.
Early in its due diligence process, GreenPath researched existing office complexes in Oakland County. Based on its needs related to employee work space, advanced technology, security and parking, the company decided to build from the ground up. They broke ground on the building in April 2010 and starting moving into the new headquarters in early 2012.
GreenPath counseled more than 306,000 people in 2011, and helped debt management program clients pay back nearly $305 million to their creditors.
GreenPath, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011, began in 1961 as the Michigan League Cooperative Budget Service, a service of the Michigan Credit Union League. In 1968, GreenPath became a 501(c)3, not-for-profit company called Credit Counseling Centers, Inc. (CCC). In the following decades, CCC added branch offices throughout Michigan and in other states. In 2001, the organization changed its name to GreenPath, Inc., doing business as GreenPath Financial Wellness. At that time, GreenPath made the commitment to become licensed throughout the United States.
