UNEMPLOYED HOOSIERS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR MORTGAGE ASSISTANCE
GreenPath Debt Solutions to counsel and determine eligibility for Indiana Hardest-Hit funding program
(ELKHART, IN – May 23, 2011) - GreenPath Debt Solutions, with offices in Elkhart and Mishawaka, is partnering with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) on the state’s new Hardest Hit Fund initiative. GreenPath will work with the Indiana Foreclosure Prevention Network (IFPN) and provide free mortgage assistance eligibility counseling to unemployed residents of Elkhart and Saint Joseph counties.
Under Indiana’s Hardest Hit Fund - Unemployment Bridge Program (UBP), low-to moderate income homeowners whose primary residence is in Indiana may be eligible for mortgage assistance. Homeowners in the 46 counties classified as hardest hit, will be eligible for assistance not to exceed $18,000 for up to 18 months. Homeowners residing in other counties can receive up to $12,000 not to exceed 12 months. Homeowners must attend an in person counseling session to see if they qualify.
Residents in Elkhart and Saint Joseph counties are encouraged to contact GreenPath Debt Solutions to determine their eligibility for this program. “Our counselors are ready to work with homeowners interested in this program,” said Amanda Walker, Group Manager at GreenPath.
The IFPN will administer the program as an additional tool offered to troubled borrowers and will offer individuals who are unemployed through no fault or neglect of their own a monthly benefit to cover a portion of their first mortgage and related expenses while the individual seeks new employment.
“We estimate that 16,000 Indiana households could receive assistance at an average level of $702 per month for an average of approximately 16 months, inclusive of payments to clear delinquencies and aid after re-employment,” said Stephanie Reeve, Director of Asset Preservation for the IFPN and IHCDA.
If you are a resident of Elkhart or Saint Joseph counties and want to learn more about this program, please set up an in-person counseling session by calling the GreenPath Mishawaka office (245 Edison Road, Suite 230) at (574) 252-0951 or the GreenPath Elkhart office (500 North Nappanee, Suite 7A) at (574) 293-0075.
