Bankruptcy Questions

I'm strongly considering filing for bankruptcy. Can you give me any advice?

We can't tell you whether or not to file, but we can tell you that it should be the absolute last resort. This is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life, and you owe it to yourself to explore every option before resorting to bankruptcy. Contact GreenPath Debt Solutions to speak to a financial counselor. They will analyze your situation and discuss options with you.  Then you can make an informed decision on how to move forward.

I filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy about four years ago. Now I feel like it's a black cloud hanging over my head because I'm having a lot of trouble getting credit. How long will the bankruptcy information stay on my credit report?

Chapter 7 bankruptcy information remains on your credit report for 10 years from the date filed. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is build a positive payment history by making your bill payments on time each month.

Two years ago I filed Chapter 13. I'm regretting it now, because I don't think I will be able to buy a home. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

Since you filed a Chapter 13 instead of a Chapter 7, you may possibly still be able to obtain a home loan. But you will most likely need to make a larger down payment and will have to pay a higher interest rate. The most important thing you can do is to faithfully stay current on all your bills. As time passes, you are slowly rebuilding a positive credit history by staying current and following the repayment plan laid out for you in your Chapter 13.
