GREENPATH DEBT SOLUTIONS APPROVED TO OFFER
BANKRUPTCY COUNSELING NATIONWIDE
Farmington Hills, Mich. September 28, 2005 - GreenPath Debt Solutions is one of three agencies that were recently approved by the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees to offer credit counseling services nationwide in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code.
Effective October 17, the new law* requires consumers to complete a pre-filing counseling session with an approved credit counseling agency prior to filing and a financial education course before any debts can be erased in a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. GreenPath recently established a Bankruptcy Services Group designed to help consumers fulfill these new requirements. These services will inform consumers about the bankruptcy process, alternatives to bankruptcy and the potential consequences of filing for bankruptcy.
"GreenPath has developed affordable, convenient programs to meet all bankruptcy counseling and education requirements," said Jane McNamara, president and CEO of GreenPath, Inc. "We will work closely with the consumers, their attorneys and the courts to ensure these requirements are met."
Consumers are required to complete a pre-filing counseling session during which they'll receive a customized budget, a briefing education packet, a home budget software program and a counseling certificate. The second portion of the requirement, the pre-discharge educational course, will help consumers prepare for the future by teaching them how to properly manage finances. Their skills will be tested through an evaluation and an education certificate will be issued.
