“Financial stress is a reality for many people, especially given the uncertainties of the ongoing pandemic,” notes GreenPath President and CEO Kristen Holt. “Getting proven information and education is critical for individuals who are navigating financial challenges. GreenPath’s Learning Lab allows people to access carefully designed learning activities created by financial education specialists.”

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ 2020 Employee Financial Wellness Survey, 38% of American employees, including 62% of Gen Z workers, have less than $1,000 saved to deal with emergency expenses. With that, the GreenPath Learning Lab aims to provide online access to content designed to inspire users toward their financial goals and create behavior changes in order to act towards them.

The Learning Lab resource provides people with a range of educational experiences to help people manage money more effectively. Individuals can engage in hands-on “choose your own adventure” style learning activities on spending and budgeting, forbearance, and other financial topics.

Accessible at any time, the Learning Lab can help reduce anxiety associated with seeking financial help. The educational tool allows users to connect directly with a GreenPath expert for one-on-one personal assistance. Applied learning can be used to help individuals build financially healthy habits over time.

GreenPath Financial Wellness Education Manager Brad O’Brien said this online experience is not meant to replace the in-person and phone services GreenPath provides. It is, however, meant to be used as a tool to increase financial awareness, lessen anxiety and be a lifeline outside of the other options.

“We don’t see it as a replacement. We see it as an enhancement to how we serve people at GreenPath,” O’Brien said. “People are at different stages in their journey and require different types of information or experiences. Our counseling is something that we’ve done for a very long time and we’re continuing to do and we’ve continued to do through the pandemic. This new digital platform is just another way for people to engage with our content and with our experiences.”
